4th Stimulus Payment Update: $5,000 Boost in Social Security for Low-Income Individuals

4th Stimulus Payment Update

Here, I'll share the latest info about the $5,000 increase for low-income Social Security. You can also find updates and news about the 4th Stimulus on this page. The Social Security Administration is working really hard to increase payments in 2024. Good news for over 71 million eligible Americans—they'll get a boost in their benefits. However, this means the Social Security accounts will have to give out a bit more money each month. This increase is because of the new Cost of Living Adjustment, adding an extra 3.2% every month.

No matter if you get SSI or Social Security, everyone will get an extra 3.2%. The only thing is, the extra money might vary because people get different payment amounts.

$5,000 Boost for Social Security Benefits for Low-Income Individuals

Just before the holidays, the Illinois State Treasurer shared some good news. More than 73,000 people in the state will be getting a $5,000 Payment Check in the mail soon. Thanks to the Enhanced Money Program, the state treasurer can send these checks without people having to sign up for it. Each person can expect to receive up to $5,000.

To make this happen, the state treasurer worked with the Illinois General Assembly to raise the highest amount that can be given back to $5,000. The Enhanced Money Program uses existing data from the state, comparing it with the treasurer's list of unclaimed property. When someone's name and address match in the database, the Treasurer's office will send them a letter telling them how much money they're getting.

Illinois State $5,000 Stimulus: Who Qualifies?

Before finding out if you qualify for Illinois State's $5,000 Stimulus, let's look at why it's happening. Snap Financing, a U.S. financial company, had a problem with the security of its data and client information. Now, they have to send out these stimulus checks to make up for that security issue. This data breach occurred between June 23 and September 8 in 2022. So, if you were a client of the company during those months, you might be able to apply for a stimulus check. Here's who is eligible for Illinois State's $5,000 Stimulus:

  • - You must have used the company's services between June 23 and September 8, 2022.
  • - Show proof, like documents, to demonstrate how the data breach affected you.
  • - Submit all necessary documents well before the January 16, 2024, deadline.
  • - If you apply by the deadline, you could receive up to $5,000 as part of this stimulus check.
  • - Due to the data breach, Snap Financing has to pay a total of $1.8 million.

Latest Updates and News on the IRS 4th Stimulus Payment

Let me make it clear once again that there won't be another 4th Stimulus Payment Check in 2024 from the American government. In 2024, Social Security beneficiaries might see some big changes that will affect things like how much money they get each month and their taxes. The highest monthly benefit is expected to be around $5,000. More than 71 million people, from kids to older folks, receive a monthly benefit through the old-age and disability program. Thanks to these benefits, which go up a bit each year to keep up with rising prices, many Americans are able to avoid falling into poverty.

In 2024, benefits will go up by 3.2%. The changes happening that year will mostly be because of adjustments in the cost of living. These adjustments will make people get more money each month, but it could also mean they might have to pay higher taxes on what they earn. Some Social Security recipients might find this surprising because they mistakenly think their benefits are tax-free.

How the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Will Affect SSDI and SSI in 2024

In 2024, the most money you can get for SSDI disability benefits is going to be $3,822. On average, people will get paid between $1,489 and $1,537. This means some folks might get an extra $48 each month. This change could really help your finances, especially since you only need to earn $576 in a whole year to benefit from it.

SSI beneficiaries will be the first to get the COLA increase from Social Security. Since their maximum amounts are smaller, they won't get as much money. For example, someone who's essential might only get $458 in 2023 or $472 in 2024. This means they'll only get an extra $14 each month, which adds up to $168 in a year. While it's a good thing, it might not be enough to make a big difference.
