Michigan families getting help from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will get their payments tomorrow.
Michigan January SNAP benefits worth up to $1,751 arrive tomorrow
If you're part of SNAP, your payment will come between Jan. 3 and Jan. 21, but the exact day depends on the last digit of your SNAP ID number.
For ID numbers 0 to 4, payments will be on the third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and 11th. If your ID ends in 5 to 9, you'll get your benefits on the 13th, 15th, 17th, 19th, or 21st.
Stimulus Checks Update: $550 Checks Sending Out
Even if you qualified for SNAP after Oct. 21 or your ID number comes up later, you'll still get your January food stamps and won't have to wait until February.
About 13% of people in Michigan, or 1.34 million, receive food stamps, and each household member gets an average of $181 a month.
Michigan got a bump in food stamp benefits for 2024, thanks to a cost-of-living adjustment. Until September 2024, 48 states and Washington, D.C., will get the same maximum benefits, except Hawaii and Alaska.
In Michigan, the most you can get is $291 for one person, $1,155 for five people, and $1,751 for eight people. You'll also get an extra $219 for each additional person over eight.
If you're eligible, you can use your SNAP benefits at places like farmers markets and grocery stores. The idea is to spend it on healthy food. The payments get reloaded every month on an electronic benefit transfer card, known as a "Bridge Card" in Michigan.
