Michigan is going to give money to about 700,000 households next month. Each household will get an average of $550 as part of a bigger tax credit called the Working Families Tax Credit.
Michigan Sending Out $550 Checks Next Month
The money that people will get is the difference between what they would have gotten before and what they get now. The law changed last year, and now the tax credit is worth 30%, up from 6%. This means eligible residents in Michigan will get extra money when they get their 2022 tax refunds. In total, 700,000 families in Michigan will get an average of $3,150 as a tax refund for the year 2022.

The governor, Gretchen Whitmer, said, “We're giving back more money to 700,000 Michigan families. Each family will get around $550 earlier than expected. This helps a lot of kids and parents. They can use the extra money to pay bills, buy food, and get school supplies."
The money will start going out on February 13, and it will take five to six weeks to reach everyone. The Michigan Department of Treasury will decide who gets the extra money, and they will send it automatically. People don't need to fill out extra forms to get the check.
This higher rate of 30% for the Working Families Tax Credit will also be there for the next tax year, 2023. The state will give out refunds with this new rate later this year. If you want to know more about the tax credit, you can check the state's website.
